Getting and staying connected to WiFi
Read about basic troubleshooting tips and some good-to-know information.
In case you’re having connection problems
Double-check that all the basics are in place and working.
You are using the latest version of Airthings app.
On your phone or tablet, go to your app store. If the button says Open, you have the latest version. Otherwise, tap Update to get the latest version.Your phone has Internet access.
Your smartphone needs internet access to retrieve and display the latest values from your account in the secure Airthings cloud.Your View monitor is within WiFi range of your router.
If your phone has a strong WiFi signal when stand next to your monitor, you’re good to go.Your router is transmitting on the 2.4 GHz band. View monitors do not connection to 5 GHz WiFi networks.
Most routers support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, so be sure you are transmitting both; not only the 5 GHz band.Your router has an active connection to the internet.
The monitor’s batteries are firmly in position. Loose connections can sometimes occur when jostled during shipment.
Known issues with Ubiquity routers
Some View monitor customers using Ubiquity routers have reported connectivity problems.
If you have a Ubiquity router, we recommended you use an alternate router to provide service to your View monitor, if one is available.
If you only have access to a Ubiquity router, try locking your View monitor to a specific access point. Login to your Ubiquity account at UniFi, then select Client > Settings > Lock to Access Point. This has proven helpful in some cases.
If you are still having problems, we suggest you contact Ubiquity customer support.
Rebooting your monitor and your router
Rebooting can give your router and monitor a second try at successfully establishing a connection.
First, restart your WiFi router. Once the network is live again, your View monitor should remember the network and password and connect automatically.
If it doesn't connect, reboot your View monitor:
If it's battery-powered: Pull out the two top batteries and reinsert them.
If it's plugged in: Unplug your USB cable from the monitor, then plug it back in.
Rebooting your monitor will cause the Airthings app to lose access to previously collected data. This means that measurement segments will start anew from the day of rebooting and the radon, CO2, and VOC sensors will start recalibration. Your full history, however, will still be available in the Airthings web-based dashboard.
Where to place your monitor
We think View Plus is the perfect monitor to use in rooms where the members your household spend most of their time - think family rooms, kitchens and bedrooms. But wherever you use it, here are some tips for the best results:
Place the monitor as near as possible to breathing height
Make to stand it on a solid surface where it cannot easily be accidentally knocked over
Avoid damp environments in excess of 85% humidity - this can damage the screen or the radon sensor
Leave about 25 cm (10 inches) in front of the monitor face so you can wave for quick checks
Place the monitor at least 3ft/30cm from windows, doors and vents and not in direct sunlight
Never use it outdoors. Not even to test the unit. The quick change of conditions from indoors to outdoors (or vice versa) can cause condensation to form inside the unit causing permanent damage.
Personalizing your device display
You can display two values on the device display. To choose which values you want to see, open the app’s Settings menu, then choose Devices, your View Plus device, then Display. Here you can tap to select/deselect which values, including Outdoor temperature, you want to see, then click Save. The display will update within abut 60 seconds.
About sensor sampling rates
Each sensor in View Plus takes air samples at set rates. The exception is for particulate matter (PM).
Sensor | Sampling rate |
Radon | 60 min |
Particulate matter (PM) | 2.5 min, 10 min, or 60 min * |
Carbon dioxide (CO2) | 5 min |
Airborne chemicals (VOCs) | 5 min |
Humidity | 2.5 min |
Temperature | 2.5 min |
Air pressure | 5 min |
How often View Plus samples PM
If View Plus is plugged in*, the PM sensor samples every 2.5 min.
If View Plus is running on batteries*, it samples every 10 min by default.
However, if you want to extend the battery life by reducing the sampling rate further, you can log into your web dashboard to change this to every 60 min.
Doing this also reduces the frequency with which the device sends collected sample data to your account in the Airthings cloud from every 10 minutes to every 60 min. The other sensors will continue to collect samples at their normal frequency - but your cloud account, where your app can retrieve that data, will only be updated once an hour.
A word about data privacy
Airthings does not sell or give your data to any unrelated third parties ever.
There are a number of data processors that Airthings uses to collect, store or in other ways process data on our behalf. In those cases, we have data processing agreements in place to ensure information security in all segments of the data processing. For more details, read our privacy notice.

Learn more about what View Plus measures (and what it doesn't)
Check out these resources to learn more about the key factors your View Plus measures.
Radon
A naturally occurring radioactive gas that can enter and get trapped inside your home. Long-term exposure to elevated levels can lead to lung cancer.Particulate matter (PM)
Tiny airborne particles of solids or liquids that can lead to short-term irritation or long-term cardiovascular or respiratory health problems.Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Not to be confused with carbon monoxide (CO), CO2 is a normal component of our air but when it reaches high concentrations, can cause a variety of symptoms affecting sleep, cognitive focus, and general wellbeing.Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
A group of organic chemicals that easily evaporate at room temperature. Many are natural and harmless but some, like those emitted by chemicals, paints, and so on, can cause respiratory and dermatological symptoms.
What View Plus doesn't detect
You might wonder why View Plus does not specifically detect smoke or carbon monoxide (CO). The reason is simply because for smoke and CO, a typical home requires multiple detection devices in specific locations around the home to provide adequate protection and warning. In addition, smoke detectors should be placed on the ceiling while CO detectors should be placed anywhere from eye level to ceiling height. Finally, View Plus does not integrate an audible alarm, essential for devices detecting pollutants that can cause serious and immediate heath effects.
View Plus is not designed for immediate health emergencies. It monitors your air so you learn what's in it, and how to improve it so you breathe better day-to-day, over the long-term.
