Renew: Why is my particle matter (PM) level showing high or stuck in the app?

How to fix the PM2.5 level as showing as high or stagnant for your Renew.

Updated over a week ago

Renew's Airthings Sensor System tests the air quality using a sensor that counts the number of tiny particles in the air. Sometimes a larger particle can be drawn into the sensor and get stuck. This causes the PM2.5 readings to artificially skyrocket and get stuck on the max of 1000μg/m3. It might look like this in the app.

To fix this, we recommend taking a standard concentrated fan, hair dryer, or air duster with cold air and blowing it into your Renew's Airthings System Sensor's slot.

Step 1: Power off and gently pick up your Renew

Place Renew upright with the strap handle to the side on a solid surface away from any ledges.

Step 2: Find the small opening next to the strap of the device called "Airthings Sensor System"

The Airthings Sensor System opening can be found in the picture below next to the strap of the device.

Step 3: Take an air fan, blow dryer, or air duster and direct air stream into the Airthings Sensor System

Place the air fan, blow dryer, or air duster on a cool setting and blow the air gently into the Airthings Sensor System to dislodge the large air particles.

Step 4: Check your Airthings app within 3 hours

Check your Airthings app after 3 hours to see if the PM 2.5 level has dropped from a stagnant or extremely high state. If the answer is yes then your problem has been solved! If the answer is no, and you are still experiencing this issue, please contact support via our chat or at support@airthings.com.
