Renew: Connecting to your WiFi network

Adding Renew to your Airthings account also connects you to your local WiFi network.

Good to know

There are a couple of important things to know about WiFi connectivity.

  • Use your router’s 2.4 Ghz frequency. Do not use a 5 Ghz frequency.

  • Use only a network using the WPA2 security protocol. It won’t work on a WPA3 network.

You need to use the Airthings app in order to connect Renew to your WiFi network. If you already have the Airthings app and an account, go directly to step 2.

If you are using the old-gen Airthings Wave app, you need to download the newest Airthings app. Renew will not work with Airthings Wave.

Step 1: Download the Airthings app and create an account

Download the Airthings app from Google Play or Apple Store. Open the app and follow the instructions to create an account.

Step 2: Add Renew as a device in your Airthings account and connect to WiFi

Before we begin:

  • Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.

  • Stay near your Renew for this entire step.

  • During this process, you will be prompted to enter your WiFi network password.
HOT TIP: Go to your smartphone’s WiFi settings and copy the network password to your clipboard. This way you can just paste it in the app when it’s requested.

Let's do this:

  1. Tap the plus (+) in the upper-right corner of the Devices screen and choose Add device.

  2. The app scans for Airthings devices for a few moments and Renew will appear. Tap to select it, then click Next.

  3. A new screen lets you customize the device name and select its Home location. When you’re done here, tap Add device.

  4. The app requires a Bluetooth paring request from Renew. To initiate this request, you are instructed to press and hold the Standby button on the control panel for at least 5 seconds, then tap Continue in the app. When the the pairing request has been received, the app begins to search for and list the nearby wireless networks.

  5. Tap to choose your network, then enter the WiFi network password (here's where it's good to have it in your phone's clipboard) and tap click Connect.

  6. A screen appears confirming that the new device was added successfully. Tap Done to close this window.

In the Devices tab, your Renew now appears with the name that you gave it during the pairing process.

Switching to a new WiFi network

This uses Bluetooth so you must be near the Renew device. You might also want to have the password for the new network handy on your phone to copy and paste when required.

  1. In the Airthings app, go to Settings and select your Renew.

  2. Tap the WiFi connection option and wait while the app scans for the available networks.

  3. Tap to select the new WiFi network.

  4. You will be prompted to long-press the Standby button on the Renew control panel. Press until you hear a beep and keep holding until the app confirms that the connection has been established.

  5. The app will confirm the connection once it’s established.
